PATIENT INFORMATION

What is a Traditional Chinese Medicine session like?

A practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine uses acupuncture, acupressure, massage, herbal medicine and recommendations about diet, meditation and body-mind exercise like Qigong or Tai Chi in order to restore balance and well-being.

Chinese Medicine aims to treat the root cause of an illness, not only the symptoms. It focuses on the whole body, including emotions, diet, lifestyle and environment. A patient’s first visit therefore involves an extensive intake which involves all these aspects of the patient’s life, not only the main concern at the time.

Acupuncture involves the generally painless insertion of very thin, disposable needles into specific points in the body. A typical acupuncture session may take up to an hour.  Massage or acupressure may be included in the treatment. Most people find acupuncture treatments to be very relaxing and comfortable.

When a herbal formula is prescribed, it is based on the individual diagnosis of the patient.  This method often combines many herbs in small concentrations, giving better results than using a single herb.  These are often taken in the form of herbal teas or capsules.  There are generally no side effects.

We encourage you to take charge of your health and find out for yourself what Chinese Medicine can do for you.
