ACUPRESSURE MASSAGE
& THERAPY
What is it?
Acupressure is an ancient healing art that applies finger pressure to
key points on the surface of the skin, thereby stimulating the body's natural
self-healing abilities. These points are the same as those used in
acupuncture.
One form of acupressure therapy takes the form of sustained pressure on
these points, also called "acupuncture without needles". Another form,
called "body-mind acupressure" or Jin Shin Do®, allows for a release of these
points by gently holding them, while monitoring images and feelings that
may emerge. A third, more dynamic, form of acupressure involves pressing
points along energetic pathways or meridians in a rhythmic sequence,
similar to Japanese "shiatsu". This can also be combined with
oil or lotion for
both a relaxing and energizing "acupressure massage".
Sessions can take place on a massage table or on a specially designed,
comfortable massage chair.
What are the Benefits?
Acupressure releases muscular tension and stress, and promotes the
circulation of blood and the body's life force to aid healing. It
can treat a variety of ailments and can also be effectively used for self-care.
